Sorry I haven’t been active on this blog since last fall, but I have been pretty busy raising my kids (the twins have been keeping us very busy). Since last year, I retired from coaching high school soccer and began refereeing as a PIAA official.
Now the PIAA has decided to move girls’ soccer from the spring to the fall which I believe will have tremendous implications.
Read about the details here: http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/4/240495
With the change, girls will now have to decide whether to play field hockey or soccer, plus the pressure on school facilities and officials will be tremendous. Most schools share field space and locker room facilities. For example, at Susquehanna, this will mean that the middle school soccer teams will be cast out of the locker room and the high school teams will be forced to share time between the stadium and the match field once school starts. I can’t imagine how this will work since the football team and the field hockey team also share space in the stadium.
Perhaps we will have to start using township fields (veterans park?) once again?
In addition, are there enough officials and coaches? Many coaches do both seasons.
This is going to be interesting? Any thoughts?

This one came out of left field catching everyone by surprise. Even the cable commentators had to double check the pronunciation of this 44 year-old, former beauty queen, 1st term governor of Alaska. Some conservatives are energized by the choice, pointing out her conservative social values (pro-life, pro-guns, Evangelical roots) and her fiscal conservatism (ending the bridge to nowhere). Others, including many liberals, are confused by the choice of the relatively inexperienced Palin since it cuts into one of McCain’s strongest attacks on Obama. What do you think of this choice? Is this a calculated move to attract disaffected Hillary voters on the gender issue, or is there more substance to this choice?

Now it’s almost official. Early Saturday morning the announcement was made by Senator Obama. Senator Joe Biden of Delaware will be the running mate.
While Biden was a front runner for selection, it is still a curious choice. He obviously brings a great deal of foreign policy experience and a national legislative agenda. Biden is well respected in the Senate. But traditionally, candidates try to balance the ticket geographically and ideologically. Biden does not really do either for Obama.
What do you think of the choice?
